Masaya Kamei was born in 2001. He started the piano at the age of four. Kamei took first place at the 88th Music Competition of Japan and received the Iwatani Prize (audience prize), Masuzawa Prize, Nomura Prize, Iguchi Prize, Kawai Prize, Miyake Prize and Argerich Arts Foundation Prize at the same time. He won the Grand Prix, audience prize, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology award, and Steinway Prize at the 43rd Piano Teachers' National Association of Japan (PTNA) Piano Competition Special Class. Kamei won the Gold Prize in the national junior high school division at the 17th Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA and the Gold Prize and Soloist Prize in the Asia division of the same competition. He took first place and Yokohama Citizen's Prize (audience prize) in the national high school division at the 71st Student Music Concours of Japan, the Nomura Prize, Aiko Iguchi Prize, Japan Broadcasting Corporation Prize, Japan Post Insurance Encouragement Prize, 1st prize and the Yasuko Fukuda Prize at the 9th Yasuko Fukuda Prize Competition, the 6th the Arion-Toho Music Award, and others.
He has studied under Mayuko Aoki and Hideo Sugiura. Currently he is studying with Hisako Ueno, Michiko Okamoto, and Shoichi Hase. Kamei studied in the music department of Meiwa High School, Aichi and entered Toho Gakuen through grade-skipping and as a scholarship student. He is now a freshman at Toho Gakuen School of Music.
