Kawakubo Tamaki won the Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition in 2001, and the highest prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2002. Since then, she has performed with major orchestras in North America and become a veteran of the concert stage. In Japan Kawakubo made her debut as soloist with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung in 1997. Since her debut, she has performed with leading orchestras inside and outside Japan. Her refined techniques and musicality that respect the decency of each piece are highly rated. In recent years, Kawakubo has been active as a concert producer holding concerts planned by herself, and also keen on teaching younger musicians. She has been a professor at Toho Gakuen Graduate School (Toyama School) since 2018.
Kawakubo is one of Argerich's Friends for Argerich Arts Foundation Pinocchio Concerts.
