|Third time's charm - wishing this term will apply to us, I sincerely hope our Music Festival will be able to be held this year.
It is no exaggeration to say that the COVID-19 pandemic has deprived us all around the world of freedom that was commonplace before.
I had to cancel some of my performances, but fortunately I have been able to continue performing as ever. In some concerts, I performed without audience, but it was a great joy for me to be able to perform.
I would like to contrive ways to continue to connect with you through music.
Last year "Martha Argerich Day" was established by Oita Prefecture. Through this honor, I feel my sentiments on the role of the arts in society which I have been pursuing through this Music Festival had been shared with you. These sentiments are "tolerance and inclusion" which should be most ardently sought for now.
I have embodied these sentiments for a long time in the Music Festival each year. They have also been realized through the Pinocchio Concert project, which has resonated with many people.
I believe you will understand these sentiments of ours particularly as we have been experiencing the coronavirus hardship. I sincerely hope the Music Festival will be made possible this year while taking all the necessary measures against this crisis.
I would be happy if you will fully enjoy our performances in the Music Festival sharing the sentiments expressed in this year's message.
The theme of this year's Music Festival is:
Music and SDGs - New Paths

General Director, MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu
|It is a great pleasure to be able to hold the 22nd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu together with General Director Ms. Martha Argerich for the first time in three years.
I sincerely welcome those who visit Oita to attend the Music Festival.
In order to honor the extraordinary achievements of Ms. Martha Argerich in Oita Prefecture,
we designated June 5, her birthday, as "Martha Argerich Day" and communicated it to the world.
During these two years under the effect of COVID-19, various activities have been restrained,
and our Music Festival has also had to be canceled.
Amidst this, thanks to the great cooperation of our citizens in Oita Prefecture for anti-COVID measures, we are now able to hold the Music Festival for which many people have been waiting.
This year, Oita Prefecture takes on the challenge of the creation of a new culture together with three other cities in China and Korea as Cultural Cities of East Asia 2022.
The Beppu Argerich Music Festival has realized the spirit of tolerance and inclusion since its launch. I expect the Music Festival to lead cultural exchanges in the East Asia area.
This Music Festival is the treasure of Oita Prefecture. We will strive to have it step forward to its 22nd anniversary.
I would sincerely like to ask for your continued support.

Hirose Katsusada, Governor, Oita Prefecture
|I would like to extend my congratulatory message in announcing the holding of the 22nd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu.
We had to postpone the Music Festival due to the spread of COVID-19 that started two years ago. However, I am pleased to make this happy announcement thanks to the efforts of General Director Ms. Martha Argerich and all the people concerned.
This Music Festival has been awaited by many people, and I believe it will become a memorable event as the start of recovery from the pandemic.
With the omicron variant spreading, we need the power of music to maintain our spirit and physical health. I would like to make the City of Beppu a town full of cultural taste where music and the arts are deeply rooted in our daily lives.
To move forward to this end, we will polish up our city in cooperation with local people to receive visitors from all over Japan and the world.
To conclude my message, I wish further prosperity for the Beppu Argerich Music Festival, and health and happiness for the many people who provided generous support in making the Music Festival possible.

Nagano Yasuhiro, Mayor, Beppu City
|I would like to celebrate the 22nd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu to be held this year, and extend my sincere gratitude to all the people for their support in making this Music Festival possible.
In Oita City the viola was performed by Japanese people for the first time around 460 years ago. So the city is called the birthplace of Western music in Japan.
I would like to express my deep respect for how Ms. Martha Argerich has been delivering the charm of music to the world over twenty years from Oita, which has a long history with Western music.
Ms. Argerich will perform in a Pinocchio concert at the Heiwa Shimin Koen Noh Theater in Oita in May. Please enjoy the world-best performances.
I hope this concert will stimulate children's imagination and spiritual growth, and also become an opportunity to communicate the wonderful features of Oita City.
Unfortunately, we are in a highly unpredictable situation because of the spread of the COVID-19 omicron variant. I hope the Music Festival will be held in a safe and secure manner, carefully watching the situation.
In conclusion, I sincerely wish the Music Festival further success and all the people concerned health and prosperity.

Sato Kiichiro, Mayor, Oita City.
|We would like to extend our sincere congratulations on the opening of the 22nd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu this year.
It is my great pleaure that the long-awaited Music Festival will be made possible through the strenuous efforts by many people concerned. The Music Festival has been highly rated for such a long time, and our company is very grateful that we have been able to help sponsor this great event since 2005.
Nippon Life Insurance Company has promoted social contribution activities to support children in various fields. This is based on our strong desire for children to value the independence to voluntarily think and act, foster thoughtfulness toward other people, and develop the power to open up the future.
Music heals people's minds, gives courage, and awakens new sensibility, influencing our lives in many ways. We deeply sympathize with the thinking of Ms. Martha Argerich and Ms. Ito Kyoko embedded in this Music Festival that they aim to help children, a driving force of the future, to develop rich spirits through music. This thinking coincides with that of our company's social contribution activities.
The theme of this year's Music Festival is "Music and SDGs - New Paths." Our company too has been promoting SDGs as a life insurance company to realize a society where every generation can live with peace of mind. We are truly happy to play a role in this Music Festival, and we would like to continue diverse social contribution activities under the concept of creating systems to change the future.
In conclusion, I would like to pray for the great success of the Beppu Argerich Music Festival.
